Crestron control processors run the programme that ties lighting, AV, shades and climate together, and the interfaces here connect them to everything else, from KNX and DMX to relays, IR and infiNET EX wireless. You can buy them in Ireland from 1Install, an authorised Crestron Elite Partner, supplied on their own or installed and programmed.

Which Crestron 4-Series processor do I need?

  • CP4: a 1U rack processor with 8 IR/serial, 3 COM, 8 relay and 8 Versiport ports, a Cresnet master port and Gigabit Ethernet, supplied with a PW-2420RU power pack. The CP4-R version runs Crestron Home OS.
  • CP4N: the same ports plus an isolated control subnet, a Gigabit LAN dedicated to Crestron devices with its own DHCP and DNS server.
  • MC4: a compact PoE processor with a built-in infiNET EX and ER wireless gateway, for single rooms, small to medium homes and offices. It comes as the MC4-I or the MC4-R-I for Crestron Home OS, and in kits with an HR-150, HR-310-I, HR-CV-MINI or TSR-310 remote.
  • DIN-AP4: a DIN rail processor for panel builds, with two COM, four IR, eight Versiport and four relay ports, powered by PoE or 24 VDC. The DIN-AP4-R runs Crestron Home OS.
  • RMC4: a very small PoE processor with one COM, two IR, two relays and two digital inputs, able to control anything from a single display to lighting, shading and climate.

All of them support XiO Cloud, Crestron Fusion and control from phones and tablets.

What is a media presentation controller?

An MPC4 combines a 4-Series processor and a wall button panel in one PoE powered unit, which suits rooms and lecterns that need straightforward AV control without a touch screen.

  • MPC4-102: fits a 1-gang box, with nine backlit buttons, power, mute and volume, and onboard RS-232, IR, relay, Versiport and Cresnet ports.
  • MPC4-201: six buttons, with add-on Cresnet, infiNET EX, RS-232, IR, relay and Versiport options.
  • MPC4-301: five buttons and a rotary volume knob in a 2-gang box, on PoE+.
  • MPC4-302: ten buttons, a rotary volume knob and onboard ports in a 3-gang box, with 2.5 W available on its Cresnet port.

The MPC4-102, MPC4-201 and MPC4-301 have the .AV Framework software built in, and the MPC3-302 is the 3-Series equivalent of the MPC4-302. The MPB4-201 and MPB4-301 look similar but are button panels only, controlled over Ethernet by a separate 3-Series or 4-Series processor.

How do I connect other equipment to a Crestron processor?

  • Extra ports: CEN-IO modules add two COM ports, four digital inputs, four IR ports or four relays, over wired PoE (the -104 models) or Wi-Fi (the -204 models). The C2N-IO adds RS-232, IR and relays over Cresnet, and the DIN-IO8 adds eight Versiports on a DIN rail.
  • Wireless devices: the CENI-GW1 gateway runs SG, ER and infiNET EX networks from one unit, with up to 100 infiNET EX devices, and the CENI-GWEXER covers infiNET EX and ER.
  • Building systems: the DIN-KXI links a KNX installation, the CGDMX-512BI talks to DMX512 lighting, and the CI-SOMFY-RTS controls Somfy RTS motors.
  • Keypads and sensors: the C2N-UNI8IO turns a third-party keypad into a Cresnet device, and the INETS-IOEX-DOOR-BATT reports a door opening over infiNET EX.
  • IR control: STIRP emitters fix over a device's IR window, and the CSP-LIR-USB learns IR codes from a handheld remote into Crestron Toolbox.

What should I check when replacing or expanding a control system?

  • Programme and licences: the new processor needs the control programme loaded and any licences set up again. The USB-OFFLINE dongle validates Crestron licences where no XiO Cloud account can be used.
  • Series compatibility: some interfaces are tied to older series. The INET-IOEX-IRCOM works with 3-Series only, the DIN-AO8 with the DIN-AP2 and other 2-Series systems, and the DIN-CENCN-2-POE is not compatible with 2-Series or earlier.
  • Cresnet size: the DIN-AP4 supports about 20 typical Cresnet devices. Larger networks need a CNXHUB (six segments of 20 devices), a DIN-HUB (three segments) or a DIN-CENCN-2-POE bridge (two subnets of 20).
  • Enclosure: CAEN enclosures range from 1x1 to 7x2 modules for 120 and 230 V systems, and DIN 4-Series processors and Cresnet hubs need the CAEN-UMP1X2-DIN-PWS kit inside them. DIN-EN enclosures take 2, 3, 6 or 10 rails.
  • Power: check the PoE class, and consider the DIN-PWR-RD to run a DIN-AP4 from two supplies.

Questions about Crestron control processors and interfaces

What is the difference between the CP4 and the CP4N?

Both are 1U 4-Series processors with 8 IR/serial, 3 COM, 8 relay and 8 Versiport ports, a Cresnet port, Gigabit Ethernet and a PW-2420RU power pack. The CP4N adds an isolated control subnet: a second Gigabit port that gives Crestron devices their own local network, with a DHCP server, DNS server and port forwarding, separate from the main LAN.

What does the R mean on a Crestron processor?

It marks the Crestron Home OS version. The CP4-R, DIN-AP4-R and MC4-R-I run Crestron Home OS, the platform for residential systems, while the CP4, DIN-AP4 and MC4-I are the standard versions. The MC4-R-I is also sold in package kits with an HR-150, HR-310-I, HR-CV-MINI or TSR-310 remote.

Does the MC4 have a wireless gateway built in?

Yes. The MC4 has a built-in infiNET EX and ER wireless gateway, and Cameo 2 wireless keypads and dimmers list the MC4 and MC4-R among their compatible gateways. It is powered by PoE at 7 W typical, and has onboard RS-232, IR, Versiport, relay and Cresnet ports, so it suits a single room or a small to medium-sized home or office.

Can a Crestron system control KNX?

Yes, through the DIN-KXI KNX Secure IP gateway. It connects the KNX twisted pair bus to Ethernet and integrates KNX with a Crestron control system, controlling up to 1,000 KNX datapoints with up to eight simultaneous KNXnet/IP tunnelling connections and AES-128 security. It is configured with ETS software, powered from the KNX bus, and takes one 18 mm DIN module space.

How many Cresnet devices can one processor support?

The DIN-AP4 has two paralleled Cresnet master ports for approximately 20 typical devices. For more, the CNXHUB gives six isolated segments of 20 devices and 914 m of cable each, the DIN-HUB gives three segments on a DIN rail, and the DIN-CENCN-2-POE bridge carries Cresnet over Ethernet with two isolated subnets of 20 devices and 457 m.

What is the difference between the wired and Wi-Fi CEN-IO modules?

The -104 models, such as the CEN-IO-RY-104, connect by wired 100 Mbps Ethernet and are powered by PoE. The -204 models connect over 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, remember up to five access points, have a range of up to 15 m and run from an included 5 VDC power pack. Both come in COM, digital input, IR and relay versions in the same compact enclosure.

Do the MPB4 button panels include a processor?

No. The MPB4-201 and MPB4-301 are PoE powered button panels that connect over Ethernet to a Crestron 3-Series or 4-Series control system, which runs the programme. If the room has no other processor, an MPC4 model is the choice instead, because each MPC4 combines a 4-Series processor and the button panel in one unit.

Which enclosure do I need for a Crestron lighting or DIN rail panel?

CAEN automation enclosures house CLX Series lighting modules with a control system, in sizes from 1 module by 1 to 7 by 2, for surface or flush mounting on 120 and 230 V systems. DIN-EN enclosures hold 2, 3, 6 or 10 DIN rails 18M wide, and the HC versions have cover openings so DIN-THSTAT thermostats stay accessible.

Why are some Crestron prices shown and others on request?

Where Crestron publishes an advertised price in Ireland, we show it, before VAT and including VAT. For other products Crestron asks dealers to give the price directly, so add them to your quote list and we will send a written quote.
