Which Crestron network switch do I need?
Count the devices that need power, then check the power each port must deliver and the total budget.
- PoE+ switches give up to 30 W per port: the compact CEN-SWPOE-10 (8 ports, 220 W), the 1U CEN-SWPOE-12 (8 PoE+ ports, 125 W), the CEN-SWPOE-30 (24 ports, 480 W) and the CEN-SWPOE-48 (40 ports, 960 W).
- Ultra PoE switches give up to 90 W per port (IEEE 802.3bt): the CEN-SWPOE-ULTRA-12 (8 ports, 720 W), the CEN-SWPOE-30-ULTRA (24 ports, 1440 W), the CEN-SWPOE-48-ULTRA (40 ports, 2880 W) and the CEN-SWPOE-52-ULTRA with 2.5 and 10 Gigabit ports.
- CEN-SWPOE-26: 24 PoE+ ports, designed for Crestron commercial lighting and able to mount in a lighting enclosure.
- CEN-SWSFP-28: an all-fibre switch with 24 SFP+ and four SFP28 ports for multimode or single-mode transceivers.
Apart from the lighting-focused CEN-SWPOE-26, the managed models are NETGEAR AV switches with selectable DM NVX and DM NAX profiles, designed to make integration with Crestron AV over IP straightforward.
How do switches and power supplies fit into a typical system?
Many Crestron devices, including touch screens, AirMedia receivers, DM NVX endpoints and 1 Beyond cameras, can take data and power over one network cable, so the PoE switch is often the main power source. Where a small room has no PoE switch, the CEN-SWPOE-5AC unmanaged switch gives two PoE+ ports at 30 W and two PoE ports at 15.4 W, and the PWE-4803RU injector adds 802.3af power to a single cable.
Keypads, sensors and lighting modules on Cresnet take 24 V power from the control network instead. The DIN-PWS60 gives 60 W across six Cresnet power ports on a DIN rail, with data passing through, and the PW-2407RU gives 18 W for a small Cresnet network, such as a media presentation controller and a keypad.
At the meeting table, the PSU-MIDSPAN-USB-1 injector sends up to 100 W to a laptop over USB-C while passing its data and video through, and it can attach to a FlipTop.
Which power pack do I need for my Crestron device?
Match the voltage, current and connector to the device. Common pairings from the product listings include:
- PW-2407WU (24 VDC, 0.75 A, 2.1 x 5.5 mm): the DM-NVX-E20 and D20, TSS-470E and DM-NAX-AP-100. The PW-2407WUL has flying leads, as used by the DM-NVX-E20-2G wall plate.
- PW-2412WU (24 VDC, 1.25 A): AirMedia receivers, the DM-NVX-360, 363, E30, D30 and D200, and the DGE-1000.
- PW-2420RU (24 VDC, 2.5 A, desktop): the DM-NVX-384 and 385, the AM-TX3-200 endpoint and the 1 Beyond i12D.
- PW-1225DU (12 VDC, 2.5 A): 1 Beyond p12, p20, i12 and i20 cameras.

The PW-2407WU, PW-2407WUL and PW-2412WU wall mount packs have a universal blade kit for most outlet types, and every pack listed here runs from 100 to 240 VAC.
What should I check when replacing a switch, power supply or SFP module?
- PoE budget: add up the power each device requests. A 60 W DM-NVX-384 needs an Ultra PoE port, while most touch screens and AirMedia receivers need PoE+.
- Power redundancy: the CEN-SWPOE-52-ULTRA has two modular supply slots for the CEN-SWSFP-PWS350 or CEN-SWPOE-PWS2000-ULTRA, and the CEN-SWSFP-28 has one slot for the CEN-SWSFP-PWS350.
- Rack space: most managed switches are 1U, and the CEN-SWPOE-48-ULTRA is 2U.
- Fibre type: the SFP-1G-SX is for duplex multimode fibre up to 550 m, the SFP-1G-LX for duplex single-mode fibre up to 10 km, and the SFP-1G-BX-D works on one single-mode fibre with a matching uplink module. The SFP-10G-SR is for DMF and DMCF devices. All are hot-swappable.
- Settings: save the old switch configuration so VLANs, multicast and AV profiles can be restored.

What is the difference between the PoE+ and Ultra PoE switches?
The PoE+ models, such as the CEN-SWPOE-30, supply IEEE 802.3at power at up to 30 W per port, which suits most touch screens, AirMedia receivers and DM NVX endpoints. The Ultra models, such as the CEN-SWPOE-30-ULTRA, supply 802.3bt PoE++ at up to 90 W per port, with a much larger total budget: 1440 W against 480 W for those two switches.
Why use a Crestron NETGEAR AV switch for DM NVX?
The managed CEN-SWPOE and CEN-SWSFP switches are designed to make integration with Crestron AV over IP straightforward. They have selectable DM NVX and DM NAX profiles, and models such as the CEN-SWPOE-10, 12, 30 and 48 list IGMPv3 and MLDv2 snooping and querier, IEEE 1588 PTPv2 and LLDP, managed through a web interface or command line.
Which SFP module do I need for a DM NVX endpoint?
It depends on the fibre. The SFP-1G-SX works over duplex multimode fibre at 850 nm, up to 550 m on OM2 or better. The SFP-1G-LX works over duplex single-mode fibre at 1310 nm, up to 10 km. The SFP-1G-BX-D uses a single simplex single-mode fibre and pairs with an uplink module such as the SFP-1G-BX-U.
What does the CEN-SWPOE-5AC do?
It is a 5-port unmanaged Gigabit switch with one uplink and four PoE outputs: ports 1 and 2 give PoE+ at up to 30 W, and ports 3 and 4 give PoE at 15.4 W. It runs from 100-277VAC mains, supports lighting control room-to-room communication, and mounts on a surface, in a ceiling box, on a DIN rail or on a rack rail.
What is the difference between the PW-2407WU and the PW-2412WU?
Both are universal, regulated wall mount power packs with a 24 VDC output, a 1.83 m cable with a 2.1 x 5.5 mm barrel connector and a universal blade kit for most outlet types. The PW-2407WU supplies 0.75 A and the PW-2412WU supplies 1.25 A, so check which one the device you are powering specifies.
What does the DIN-PWS60 power?
The DIN-PWS60 is a 60 W Cresnet power supply that mounts on a DIN rail, 6M wide. It powers Crestron automation processors such as the DIN-AP3 and other Cresnet devices through six Cresnet power ports, while Cresnet data passes through unaffected. It runs from a 100 to 277 VAC line supply and connects with screw terminals.
What is the PSU-MIDSPAN-USB-1 used for?
It is a single channel midspan injector for USB-C connections. It supplies up to 100 W to a laptop or other USB-C host while passing USB 3.2 data at up to 10 Gbps and DisplayPort Alt Mode video through to the connected device, with no configuration needed. It comes with a PW-2460DU power pack, and the PSU-MIDSPAN-USB-1-C kit adds two USB-C cables.
Do the Ultra PoE switches need extra power supplies?
The CEN-SWPOE-52-ULTRA has one internal supply plus two modular slots for the CEN-SWSFP-PWS350 or CEN-SWPOE-PWS2000-ULTRA, sold separately, which raise its PoE budget to as much as 3314 W and can add redundancy. The CEN-SWPOE-30-ULTRA has two AC power connectors and the CEN-SWPOE-48-ULTRA has three, and their listed consumption at maximum PoE rises with each connection used.
