Which shade power supply do I need?

The right supply depends on how many motors you are powering and where the supply can go.

• CSA-PWS10S-HUB-ENET: a central supply for up to 10 Quiet Motor Technology roller shade or drapery motors, each wired as a home run with its own overcurrent protection. It adds an Ethernet to Cresnet bridge, a 5-segment Cresnet hub and fault diagnostics, and it surface mounts or fits a CAEN enclosure.
• CSA-PWS2S-JBOX-ZUMLINK-CN: powers up to two QMT series motors from a standard 4 in x 4 in junction box, with 100 W in total and 50 W per output. It is plenum rated to UL 2043 and passes power through to Cresnet or Zum Link devices.
• CSAI-PWS40: a plug-in power pack giving a regulated 24 VDC at 40 W to one CSM-QMTDC international series motor, suited to motors that communicate over infiNET EX wireless.

Large projects usually centralise power in a plant room or cupboard, while single windows or retrofits suit the junction box or plug-in options.

How do shades and drapes connect to a Crestron system?

In a wired system, each motor runs back to a power supply, and Cresnet carries control between the motors, keypads and the control processor. The Ethernet to Cresnet bridge in the CSA-PWS10S-HUB-ENET lets Cresnet travel over the building's existing network, and its diagnostics can trigger events in the control programme when a fault is found. Wireless motors on infiNET EX only need local power at the window.

Other motors can be brought into the same system:

• C2N-SDC-DC: two independent outputs for 24 VDC 2-wire bidirectional motors, on Cresnet.
• CI-SOMFY-RTS: an RS485 interface for up to 16 groups of Somfy RTS motors and receivers.
• DIN-2MC2 and CLCI-MCEX: control for mains voltage motors, on a DIN rail over Cresnet or in the ceiling over infiNET EX.

Once connected, shades and drapes can be run from keypads, touch screens and scenes like any other load.

What should I check when replacing a shade power supply or controller?

• Motor type: the CSAI-PWS40 is for one CSM-QMTDC international series motor only, and the C2N-SDC-DC is made for 24 VDC 2-wire bidirectional motors. Check the label on the motor before ordering.
• Motor count: the CSA-PWS10S-HUB-ENET takes up to 10 motors in any mix of shades and drapery, and the CSA-PWS2S-JBOX-ZUMLINK-CN takes two.
• Output rules: on the CSA-PWS2S-JBOX-ZUMLINK-CN, each output serves either a shade or additional Cresnet devices, never both.
• Mounting: the C2N-SDC-DC fits a 4-inch square or 2-gang electrical box in a wall or ceiling. International terminal blocks for the CSA-PWS10S-HUB-ENET are listed separately (CSAI-PWS-TBLOCK-2 and CSAI-PWS-TBLOCK-3).
• Mains work: Crestron states that the junction box supply must be installed by a licensed electrician to local building codes.
• Programming: a replacement controller needs its Cresnet ID set and must be added back into the control programme so keypads and scenes work as before.

How do I choose shade hardware, fabrics and colours?

Crestron sample cases let you see the real hardware before you commit, which helps when an architect or client is choosing finishes.

• CSA-DSK-HDWR-QMT3: brackets, end caps, fascia, pockets and colour chips for the QMT3 Series Architectural and Décor hardware, which is built for a small form factor.
• CSA-DSK-HDWR-QMT5: the same range of samples for QMT5 Series hardware.

Both series of Architectural hardware allow shades to be mounted on a wall or ceiling, or in a pocket or window jamb, and cover single roller and dual roller applications. End caps and plugs are shown in various colours so the finish can be matched to the room.
