Which FlipTop power outlet module do I need?

Start with the socket type used on site. The single outlet modules each carry one outlet rated 10 A at 220-240 VAC, sit nearly flush at the top of the FlipTop and connect through a 2.74 m power cord. Versions are made for Type G, Type F (Schuko), Type E, Type L, Type J and Type H outlets, and each takes two consecutive module slots.

Universal outlets are rated 10 A at 120-240 VAC:

• FT2A-PWR-UN-1-BASIC: one universal outlet, listed for use where Type B, G or I outlets are used. It takes two slots.
• FT2A-PWR-UN-2: four universal outlets, two above the table and two below, listed for Type B, F, G or I. It takes four consecutive slots.

For tables where several people plug in laptops, the dual universal module gives the most outlets from one module, and the outlets under the table suit equipment that stays plugged in.

How do I add USB charging to a FlipTop?

There are two USB charging modules, and they are powered differently.

• FT2A-CHGR-USBA-BASIC: fits an FT2 Series FlipTop, takes one slot and has two USB Type-A ports, each giving up to 12 W at 2.4 A with both in use at once. It comes with its own external 100 to 240 V power pack. USB cables are not included.
• FT2A-CHGR-USBA/C: made for the FT2 ELEC Series, with high power USB Type-C and Type-A ports, and listed as bus powered.

Each FT2 ELEC Series FlipTop comes with one FT2A-UTK-PWS power supply, which gives a regulated 24 VDC at 2.5 A. Crestron notes that a second supply may be needed when a FlipTop has two USB Rapid Charging Modules, and that no more than two should be fitted. The supply attaches beneath the table to mounting slots on the front, left or right of the FlipTop chassis, using the bracket supplied.

How does a FlipTop fit into a meeting room?

The FlipTop is the cable management box set into the table, and the modules drop into its chassis in a row. The FT2 Series boxes themselves, listed with the cables, come in sizes including 202, 500, 700, 1200 and 1400, in electrical (ELEC) and mechanical (MECH) versions with a pass-through lid, finished in alloy or black.

Alongside power and charging, connector plate modules for the FT2 ELEC Series add an HDMI connection (18 Gbps) or an RJ45 CAT6 network point, and keystone plate modules, sold in packs of 10, take keystone jacks. An under-table utility shelf for the FT2 Series is also listed.

In a typical meeting room, the HDMI and network points at the table run back to the room's switcher, wireless presentation receiver or video conferencing system, while the outlet modules are fed from the building's power. Planning the module layout early makes sure the box is large enough for every outlet, charger and connector the room needs.

What should I check when replacing or adding a FlipTop module?

• Free slots: the FT2A-CHGR-USBA-BASIC needs one slot, single outlet modules need two consecutive slots and the FT2A-PWR-UN-2 needs four. Count the free slots next to each other, not just the total.
• Position: Crestron's guidance for the Type G module is to place it at least one slot away from either end of a module row where possible.
• Series: the FT2A-CHGR-USBA/C, the connector plates and the FT2A-UTK-PWS are listed for the FT2 ELEC Series, so check the FlipTop type.
• Power supplies: allow for a second FT2A-UTK-PWS if you fit a second USB Rapid Charging Module.
• Cable reach: the outlet modules have 2.74 m power cords and the FT2A-UTK-PWS has a 1.83 m DC cable, so confirm where the power source sits under the table.
• Like for like: ordering the same part number keeps the outlet type and slot layout unchanged.
