About the Crestron CP4-R

Unlike a traditionally programmed Crestron processor, the CP4-R is set up rather than coded. Rooms, lighting, shades, climate, audio and video are added with the Crestron Home Setup app, and the household controls everything from the Crestron Home app, Crestron touch screens and keypads. Inside is a 4-Series multicore processor with 4 GB of SDRAM and 8 GB of flash memory.

The onboard ports cover most of the equipment in a large home: eight IR/serial outputs, three COM ports, eight isolated relays, eight Versiport inputs and outputs, a Cresnet port that can power Cresnet devices, and gigabit Ethernet. BACnet is supported natively, with up to 2000 BACnet objects and no licence needed. Wireless infiNET EX devices connect through an infiNET EX gateway, and a security panel can be connected through an optional COM port expander (CEN-IO-COM-102 or CEN-IO-COM-202).

Crestron's guidance for a single CP4-R is up to 100 rooms, 120 keypads, 24 touch screens and 500 lighting loads, and a larger home can add further processors. When an older Crestron processor is replaced with a CP4-R, each existing device is checked against Crestron's list of products that work with Crestron Home, and supported devices can usually stay in place.

What is the Crestron CP4-R?

It is a 4-Series control processor with the Crestron Home operating system built in. It is the core of a Crestron Home system, connecting lighting, shades, climate, audio, video, door locks and sensors, and it fits in a single 1 RU space in a 19-inch rack or sits on a shelf.

What is the difference between the CP4-R and the CP4?

The CP4-R runs Crestron Home OS and is set up with the Crestron Home Setup app, so there is no custom programme to write. The CP4 is the standard 4-Series control system used for custom programmed and commercial systems. The control ports are the same, but the CP4-R has 4 GB of SDRAM against the 2 GB listed for the CP4.

How big a home can one CP4-R run?

Crestron's guidance for a single CP4-R is up to 100 rooms, 120 keypads, 24 touch screens or TSR-310 remotes, 500 lighting loads and 100 thermostats. These are recommendations rather than hard limits, and adding child processors raises the keypad, touch screen and lighting figures for very large homes.

Does the CP4-R work with infiNET EX wireless devices?

Yes, through an infiNET EX wireless gateway, which is sold separately. The CP4-R has no built-in wireless gateway, so infiNET EX keypads, dimmers and other wireless devices connect to the system through the gateway.

What comes in the box with the CP4-R?

The CP4-R comes with a PW-2420RU power pack, a 4 GB SDHC memory card, adhesive feet and rack ears. The power pack runs from 100 to 240 VAC and also powers connected Cresnet devices through the processor's Cresnet port.

Can 1Install supply, install and programme the CP4-R?

Yes. 1Install is an authorised Crestron Elite Partner with offices in Skerries, Co. Dublin and Cork. We can supply the CP4-R on its own, or install, set up and programme it as part of your system. Installation visits are €440 for 4 hours or €880 for a full day, plus VAT and travel.

Does the CP4-R come with a warranty?

Yes. Everything we supply is new, genuine Crestron with Crestron's standard warranty. If the CP4-R develops a fault, contact us and we will handle the claim with Crestron. If we installed it, our workmanship is guaranteed for the lifetime of the system.

Is the CP4-R in stock?

We order Crestron for each quote, so availability depends on Crestron's stock at the time. We check it before we quote and put the expected delivery date on your quote, so you know where you stand before you pay.

Can I buy the CP4-R without installation?

Yes. We supply Crestron to end users, with or without installation. Like most Crestron devices of this type, it needs setting up or programming before it works in a system, and we can quote for that too.
