About the Crestron CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE

For a lighting system with several CAEN enclosures, the bridge lets each one join the control system over standard Ethernet, making use of the existing LAN. Crestron notes that the extra bandwidth reduces latency and improves overall speed. Inside the enclosure it provides Cresnet and Override connections for CLX Series lighting control modules, and Crestron positions it as a more sophisticated option than a Cresnet block or hub.

Each of the two isolated Cresnet subnets supports 20 devices and 1500 feet (457 m) of aggregate cable, with intelligent power management on each. One subnet serves the lighting control modules and the other serves all other Cresnet devices, such as keypads, shade motors, thermostats and sensors. Built-in diagnostics log and report Cresnet activity and errors, helping to keep the Cresnet network reliable.

The bridge can be powered by PoE, PoE+ or Cresnet. Crestron's power table shows 10 W available in total across the NET B ports on PoE Class 0 (12.95 W), 20 W on PoE+ Class 4 (25.5 W), and up to 75 W when power is supplied through the POWER INPUT. It is not compatible with Crestron 2-Series control systems or earlier, so check the processor before adding one to an existing system.

Questions about the Crestron CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE

What does the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE do?

It is an Ethernet to Cresnet bridge for Crestron CAEN, CAEN-MLO and CAENIB automation enclosures. It links the enclosure to one or more control systems over Ethernet, gives CLX Series lighting modules their Cresnet and Override connections, and adds a second isolated Cresnet subnet for other devices.

How many Cresnet devices can the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE support?

Each of its two isolated Cresnet subnets supports 20 Cresnet devices and up to 1500 feet (457 m) of aggregate cable. One subnet is for the lighting control modules and the other for outboard Cresnet devices, and power is managed intelligently on each subnet.

How is the bridge powered?

It can be powered by PoE, PoE+ or Cresnet. According to Crestron's figures, 10 W is available in total for the NET B ports on PoE Class 0 (12.95 W), 20 W on PoE+ Class 4 (25.5 W), and up to 75 W when power is fed through the POWER INPUT.

Will the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE work with a 2-Series processor?

No. Crestron states that the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE is not compatible with 2-Series control systems or earlier. If an existing lighting system is still run by one of these processors, that needs to be taken into account before choosing this bridge over a standard Cresnet block.

How is it different from the CAEN-BLOCK?

The CAEN-BLOCK is a Cresnet terminal block for enclosures without a control system. The CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE adds an Ethernet connection to the control system, two isolated Cresnet subnets with power management, PoE or PoE+ powering and built-in diagnostics, which Crestron describes as a more sophisticated solution than a Cresnet block or hub.

How much is the Crestron CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE?

Crestron asks its dealers to give the price of the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE directly rather than publish it online. Add it to your quote list and we will send you a written quote, with delivery, and installation and programming if you need them.

Can 1Install supply, install and programme the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE?

Yes. 1Install is an authorised Crestron Elite Partner with offices in Skerries, Co. Dublin and Cork. We can supply the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE on its own, or install, set up and programme it as part of your system. Installation visits are €440 for 4 hours or €880 for a full day, plus VAT and travel.

Does the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE come with a warranty?

Yes. Everything we supply is new, genuine Crestron with Crestron's standard warranty. If the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE develops a fault, contact us and we will handle the claim with Crestron. If we installed it, our workmanship is guaranteed for the lifetime of the system.

Is the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE in stock?

We order Crestron for each quote, so availability depends on Crestron's stock at the time. We check it before we quote and put the expected delivery date on your quote, so you know where you stand before you pay.

Can I buy the CAEN-BLOCK-CENCN-2-POE without installation?

Yes. We supply Crestron to end users, with or without installation. Like most Crestron devices of this type, it needs setting up or programming before it works in a system, and we can quote for that too.
