About the Crestron USB-EXT-2

The Local unit connects to the host, such as a computer, media server, game console, annotator or codec, through a USB Type B port. The Remote unit provides two USB Type A ports for devices. The two link over a single run of solid-core CAT5e or better unshielded twisted pair, with no configuration, programming or drivers needed on Windows, macOS or Linux.

Throughput is up to 480 Mbps for USB 2.0 and 12 Mbps for USB 1.1, and Mass Storage Acceleration helps USB 2.0 bulk transfers. Mass storage and isochronous devices are supported. A signal chain can include up to four USB hubs (not included), and the system supports 30 USB devices, or 26 devices when four hubs are used.

A single 100 to 240 VAC power supply, included with the Remote unit, powers the pair and can be plugged in at either end. The Remote supplies up to 1 A to each of its two USB ports, 1.5 A in total. Each unit measures 26 mm high without feet, 75 mm wide and 87 mm deep, with four slots for wire ties or third-party mounting hardware.

What is in the USB-EXT-2 KIT?

The kit contains both halves of a USB over Category Cable Extender: the USB-EXT-2-LOCAL, which connects to the USB host, and the USB-EXT-2-REMOTE, which connects to the USB devices. Together they extend USB 1.1 and 2.0 signals up to 100 m (330 ft) over one CAT5e or better cable.

What cable does the USB-EXT-2 need?

The two units link over a single run of solid-core CAT5e or better unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable, up to 100 m (330 ft) long, with RJ45 connectors at each end. The link is point to point, so the Local unit connects directly to the Remote unit.

Does the kit need drivers or programming?

No. Crestron describes the extension as transparent and plug-and-play with most USB 1.1 and 2.0 devices and hosts. No configuration or programming is needed, and no drivers are required with Windows, macOS or Linux operating systems.

Yes. Everything we supply is new, genuine Crestron with Crestron's standard warranty. If the USB-EXT-2 develops a fault, contact us and we will handle the claim with Crestron. If we installed it, our workmanship is guaranteed for the lifetime of the system.
