An ordinary room rebuilt from the bare walls as a private cinema, with the building work, acoustics, lighting and AV all carried out by one team.
What the owner asked for
The owner wanted sound and picture of a professional standard at home, in a room that looked finished and not like a lounge with a projector added.
How we approached it
Because we did the construction as well as the technology, the room could be shaped around the cinema. A window was blocked up, a stud wall went in to hold the sound inside the room, and the ceiling was lowered to improve the acoustics. The job ran in four stages:
- Planning and design, one month.
- Building work and soundproofing, two months.
- AV installation and fabric walls, one month.
- Lighting, carpet and final set up, two weeks.
What went in
- Sonance speakers hidden behind fabric covered walls.
- An Anthem MRX 11 AV receiver with a power amplifier.
- AVPro Edge MXNet to carry video over CAT6 cable.
- A projector in its own housing at the back, and a screen across the end wall.
- LED lighting in the floor, the walls and the ceiling.
- A stepped floor so the back row sees over the front, finished in carpet, with nine recliners.
- Crestron control, so the whole room is simple to run.
How it turned out
The owner now has a private cinema whose picture and sound stand comparison with a commercial screen. Our engineers handled the design, the build, the installation and the calibration, working with the interior designers on how the walls and lighting would look.
