About the Crestron USB-EXT-3

The USB-EXT-3-LOCAL connects to the host, such as a computer, media server or game console, through a USB Type-B port. The USB-EXT-3-REMOTE has four USB Type-A ports for devices such as USB cameras, video capture devices, flash drives and keyboards at one location. USB 3.2 Gen 1 runs at up to 5 Gbps, with USB 2.0 and 1.1 supported at the same time.

All USB transfer types are supported: control, interrupt, isochronous (ISO) and bulk, and ISO support is enhanced for cameras and video capture devices. The kit is plug-and-play with no additional drivers on Windows, macOS, Linux and Chrome OS. Each unit also has a Gigabit Ethernet pass-through port for connecting a network or a network-enabled device.

Each unit has its own power pack, included: the Local uses 24 W and the Remote 41 W, of which 24 W is allocated to the four USB devices. The black anodised aluminium units can stand freely or be surface mounted with the included mounting kit, and each measures 34 mm high, 233 mm wide and 144 mm deep. Operating temperature is 0° to 50°C.

Why use the USB-EXT-3 instead of a long USB cable?

Crestron notes that a standard USB 3.2 cable is limited to 1.8 m (6 ft), which is too short for most integrated conference room systems. The USB-EXT-3 KIT carries USB 3.2 Gen 1 at up to 5 Gbps over one CAT6a or CAT7 cable, up to 100 m (330 ft).

Does it work with USB cameras?

Yes. It supports all USB transfer types, including isochronous (ISO) transport, and Crestron lists enhanced support for USB cameras and video capture devices using ISO. The Remote unit's four USB Type-A ports are intended for devices such as cameras, capture devices, flash drives and keyboards.
