Crestron Configure Pro is the software a Crestron dealer now uses to build and change a Crestron Home system, and since Crestron Home OS 4.11 on 30 June 2026 it has been Crestron's standard tool for Crestron Home projects. If you are planning a self build or an upgrade in Dublin or Cork, it affects how long commissioning takes, how changes are made after you move in, and which processor your system needs.
Crestron Configure Pro in plain terms
A Crestron Home system is set up, not coded. The rooms, the lighting circuits, the blinds, the heating zones, the music and TV sources, the keypad buttons and the scenes are all entered into the processor by the installer. Until this summer that was done in the Crestron Home Setup app. The new tool for the job is Configure Pro, which Crestron describes as "a clean and modern app built from the ground up that runs natively on Windows and Mac".
In its announcement of Crestron Home OS 4.11, Crestron says Configure Pro is now "the primary configuration tool for every Crestron Home OS project, everywhere in the world". That includes a new Crestron Home system in Dublin or Cork.
Crestron lists these as the main changes for the installer:
- Step by step room setup with no custom programming.
- Scene management across the whole house: the loads in several rooms, lighting circuits for example, can be selected in a tree view and changed together in one click.
- Keypad configuration from a simple menu of actions, engravings and behaviours.
- A visual Sequence Editor for logic with delays and conditions.
- Labelled inputs and outputs for audio and video connections.
- More than one engineer working on a project at the same time.
What it means for your home, stage by stage
On a self build or a deep renovation, the effect shows up at different points in the job. The time savings below are what Crestron and its dealers report, not our own measurements.
- Design and first fix. Nothing changes here. Cable routes, back boxes, panel space and the equipment location still have to be agreed before the walls are closed, and in an A rated home before the air tightness test. Our first fix guide for self builders covers what to wire.
- Commissioning. This is where the tool earns its keep. Because several engineers can work in the same project at once, lighting and blinds can be set up while music and TV are being configured. Crestron also says lighting scenes can still be adjusted live as the engineer walks around the house.
- Handover. Keypad buttons, engraving and scenes can be gone through with you before anything is finalised. Crestron's John Yohanna has said one aim is for homeowners to create their own lighting scenes and scheduled events "without having to call the dealer".
- After you move in. Every house needs adjusting once people live in it. An integrator writing on Crestron's blog on 29 September 2026 says that with Crestron Home a new television, an extra room or a revised lighting scene can often be dealt with remotely within minutes. Who it is for
Configure Pro is for the trade. Crestron calls it "purpose-built for smart home dealers" and has released it to Crestron Home dealers, so it does not make Crestron a system you buy in a box and set up yourself.
Nor does it remove the need for skill. The same integrator describes using the standard framework "for the 90% that is already proven", and keeping custom programming for the places where it adds something. The design, the choice of equipment and the quality of the commissioning still decide how good the house is to live in.

What you need: start with the processor
Configure Pro is the installer's tool, not something you buy. What you need is a system it can work with. Crestron's manual says Crestron Home with Configure Pro requires a CP4-R (Version 2), MC4-R (Version 2) or DIN-AP4-R processor on firmware 4.11 or later. The current release is 4.12, dated 22 September 2026.

On cost, Crestron said in September 2025 that Crestron Home OS had received hundreds of feature updates "without charging homeowners a cent". What you pay for is the engineer's time: a 4 hour visit is €440 plus VAT, and extra time or remote support is €110 an hour plus VAT. Where Configure Pro came from, and what is next

The AI assisted mode is the one to watch. The trade publication CE Pro reports from CEDIA Expo 2026 that it will let an integrator describe a project in plain language, including by uploading an Excel file of project details, and have the rooms and placeholders for the equipment filled in automatically. Crestron was explicit, CE Pro says, that it is for dealers and integrators, not end users. Natural language programming for homeowners is being explored, it adds, but for now the priority is shielding integrators from the liability of customers reprogramming systems badly. Early 2027 is an expected date, not a promise.
Crestron also says Configure Pro will keep being updated on a rolling basis, and has named remote access as a priority.
Questions we are often asked
Is Crestron Configure Pro something I install at home?
No. It runs on the installer's Windows or Mac laptop and connects to the processor in your house. You carry on using the Crestron Home app, touch screens, keypads and remotes as before.
I am building a house in Dublin or Cork. Does Configure Pro change what I should wire?
No. The cabling, back boxes and equipment space are the same, and they still need to be agreed before first fix. What changes is the setup work after the equipment is installed.
My Crestron system was custom programmed years ago. Can Configure Pro be used on it?
Not as it stands. Configure Pro only works with Crestron Home on the processors Crestron lists. We upgrade older custom programmed Crestron systems to Crestron Home with a new processor, keeping as much of the existing hardware and wiring as possible.
How do I know whether my processor is Version 1 or Version 2?
Ask a Crestron dealer. Crestron's monitoring portal for dealers marks Version 1 CP4-R and MC4-R processors, so your installer can confirm which you have.
Will Configure Pro make a Crestron system cheaper?
Crestron's claim is that setup becomes faster and more consistent, and its blog says that letting several technicians work at once can cut time on site significantly. We would not put a figure on that. The equipment, the cabling and the design work do not change.
