The Biamp BMA 360D ceiling tile microphone is now on sale in black, Biamp announced in November 2026, and the company names training rooms, voice lift and camera tracking among its uses. For Cork colleges, training centres and offices, that makes the black BMA 360D worth a look wherever a dark ceiling has kept ceiling microphones off the drawing, with one catch: the BMA 360D-I for 600 mm grids is not yet confirmed in black.

- In November 2026 Biamp said the black BMA 360D was available for immediate shipment.
- The tile is a 121 element beamforming array that can steer up to 12 beams.
- Biamp's data sheet says beam activity is reported over TCP, which a camera system can use to find the person talking.
- Built in amplification, four channels of 15 W or two of 30 W, can drive loudspeakers for voice lift.
- The current black model suits a 24 inch grid; Biamp will announce the black 600 mm BMA 360D-I separately.
The November 2026 news from Biamp
Biamp's product announcement is brief. The black BMA 360D is ready to order, it supports preset or custom beam patterns, and, as Biamp puts it, "This flexibility makes it well suited for conferencing spaces, training rooms, and environments requiring voice lift or camera tracking integration." Biamp adds that its Trade Agreements Act compliance suits government, education and other projects that require it, and that news of a black BMA 360D-I will follow.
The black and white versions share one specification on Biamp's product site at the time of writing. The colour is the change, and it is a useful one in rooms with dark ceilings, where a white square over the table can be the first thing people notice.
Training rooms, voice lift and camera tracking
Voice lift. In a long room, people at the back struggle to hear a presenter who is not using a handheld microphone. Voice lift picks up the presenter's voice and plays it gently through ceiling loudspeakers nearer the back. The BMA 360D can do the pickup and, through its own amplifier, drive the loudspeakers too, which keeps the equipment list short. That mode needs a 90 W PoE++ port, Biamp says, against 30 W PoE+ for a tile used only as a microphone.
Camera tracking. Biamp's data sheet describes text based TCP control commands that include beam activity reporting for camera tracking. In practice, the control system or camera reads which beam is active and frames that part of the room. It needs a compatible camera and control setup, so it belongs in the design brief, not as an afterthought.
Hybrid teaching. When a lecturer teaches a room and a remote class at once, the remote students need to hear questions from the floor. Up to twelve beams can be aimed across the seating, and Biamp's preset patterns include a semi circle or classroom layout as well as rectangular and square rooms.
For a Teams based room, Biamp announced in June 2026 that the BMA 360D is Certified for Microsoft Teams, and it also holds Zoom Rooms certification.
Three Cork rooms where the Biamp BMA 360D could fit
1. A college teaching room. Third level and further education rooms in Cork range from flat seminar rooms to tiered lecture spaces. A dark ceiling in a refurbished room no longer rules out a ceiling tile. Biamp's data sheet sets ceiling height in software from 7 ft to 20 ft, roughly 2.1 to 6.1 metres. Our education AV page covers the wider picture.
2. A corporate training suite. Where an office in Little Island or Mahon keeps a training room for visiting trainers who would rather not wear a lapel microphone, the black tile is worth considering. One tile can cover up to 58 square metres according to Biamp, and voice lift through the tile's amplifier helps the back rows.
3. A boardroom with a designed ceiling. In a city centre office where the ceiling has been finished in a dark colour on purpose, the black tile keeps the look. If the ceiling is solid, Biamp lists a VESA 100 mm pattern for a pole, cable suspension points, and BMA 360D-SM surface and BMA 360D-RM recessed kits; black kits appear on Biamp's product site at the time of writing.
What to plan before ordering
Start with the ceiling grid. The BMA 360D is 23.7 inches square for 24 inch grids, while Irish suspended ceilings are usually on a 600 mm module, the size the BMA 360D-I serves. Until Biamp confirms the black BMA 360D-I, a black tile in a 600 mm grid has to be checked with the supplier first.
Next, decide where the processing happens. The tile can send raw beams on separate Dante channels to a DSP, or a single smart switched output with its own echo and noise cancellation. In a room with voice lift or tracking we would often let the DSP do the work, which Biamp says can be any Dante enabled processor, including its Tesira range.
Finally, agree the network with IT: Dante or AES67 audio, the right PoE class on the switch port and somewhere to run the BMA Config software. Our post on the Biamp Devio UCX 1000 Teams rollout covers the other half of many Biamp rooms, and our pages on Teams Room installation in Cork, audio conferencing and meeting room AV explain how we approach a room. Questions we are often asked
Is the black Biamp BMA 360D good for training rooms?
Yes. Biamp names training rooms among its intended uses, with up to 12 beams and support for voice lift.
Can a Biamp BMA 360D steer a camera to whoever is speaking?
Yes, with a compatible system. Biamp's data sheet says it reports beam activity over TCP for camera tracking.
Does voice lift with the BMA 360D need extra amplifiers?
No, not always. The tile has its own amplifier, four 15 W or two bridged 30 W channels, so it can drive loudspeakers directly when powered from a 90 W PoE++ port.
Is there a black BMA 360D for a 600 mm ceiling?
Not yet confirmed. Biamp says it will announce the black BMA 360D-I, the 600 mm x 600 mm version, in a future update.
What warranty does the Biamp BMA 360D have?
Three years, according to Biamp's data sheet.
