Crestron DM NVX 370 and Crestron's Own Chip: What It Means for Dublin and Cork

Four panel video wall built into white office joinery beside lit display cabinets, a layout a DM NVX 370 system can drive

The DM NVX 370 is the first Crestron AV over IP unit to run on a chip Crestron designed in house, and Crestron says it is available now. For offices, colleges and venues in Dublin and Cork, the practical news is a USB-C connection that brings in a laptop's picture, USB and charging together, and a unit that slots into DM NVX systems already on the network.

Crestron made the announcement on 6 October 2026, introducing both the DM NVX 370 Series and the DM NVX System on Chip (SoC) behind it. As a Crestron Elite Partner whose founder, Kieran McGuire, holds every Crestron certification, we design and commission DM NVX systems for workplaces and education across Dublin and Cork. This post covers what Crestron has confirmed, how the new unit fits into an existing installation, and what your network has to be ready for.

The DM NVX 370 and Crestron's own chip, in brief

DM NVX sends video and audio between rooms over an ordinary computer network. Until now the encoders and decoders used chips bought in from outside suppliers. With this launch Crestron has moved to silicon of its own. In its announcement, Crestron gives these points for the new SoC:

  • Designed in house and tuned for professional AV, following Crestron's own product roadmap.
  • Handles 4K60 4:4:4 video and native audio, and is built to run 24 hours a day.
  • Around 30% more power efficient than off the shelf chipsets, by Crestron's figures.
  • New features are to arrive through firmware, without swapping the hardware.

Alex Peras, who leads product and engineering at Crestron, describes the chip as Crestron's own design, matched to what these environments need. Crestron's blog adds that further chip developments are expected later in the year.

What the DM NVX 370 unit offers

The DM-NVX-370 can be configured as a transmitter or a receiver, switched by the control system, a web browser or a button on the unit. Crestron's product listing details the following:

Feature What Crestron lists
Inputs One HDMI and one USB-C (DisplayPort Alt Mode), with a built in 2 by 1 switch
Laptop charging Up to 100 W over USB-C, using the optional PW-2460DU power pack
Video Up to 4096 by 2160 at 60 Hz, 4:4:4, HDR10, HDR10+ and Dolby Vision
Latency Under one frame end to end
Audio eARC, 7.1 surround including Dolby Atmos, analogue stereo and AES67
Network Two Gigabit copper ports and an SFP port for fibre; PoE+ on port 1
Video walls Up to 8 screens wide by 8 high
Mounting Freestanding, surface mount or a single rack rail

It works with Crestron 3-Series and 4-Series processors and with Crestron Home, and can be set up and monitored through XiO Cloud. The full specification is on the DM-NVX-370 page. No pricing has been published.

Adding a DM NVX 370 to a system you already have

Many organisations in Dublin and Cork already run DM NVX for boardrooms, lecture spaces and screens in reception. Crestron says the new and existing devices are fully compatible in both directions, so a 370 can be added to that system without retiring the encoders and decoders that are there today. That is a sensible way to bring USB-C into the rooms where people complain most about connecting laptops, while the rest of the building carries on as it is.

Before adding one, we check three things. First, the firmware on your existing units, so every device is on a version that works with the new hardware. Second, the stream settings, because Crestron notes that the encoder and decoder stream types must match. Third, the control programming, so the new input appears on the touch panel in the same way as the others. If your system uses the DM NVX-384 for several sources on one screen, our post on DM NVX Multiview for business explains how that works, and the DM-NVX-384 is in our shop.

Is your network ready for AV over IP?

The 370 runs on standard Gigabit Ethernet, but video over a network only behaves when the switches are set up for it. Multicast traffic and IGMP need configuring, uplinks between floors need enough headroom, and the AV traffic is best kept on its own VLAN or its own port; the 370's extra network ports make that separation easier. We agree all of this with your IT team or provider at the design stage.

Power is the other detail. PoE+ from the switch runs the unit itself, but Crestron's product page states that USB-C charging needs the separate power pack, so a socket is needed wherever the unit is fitted. The unit is fan cooled, so it should not be sealed inside furniture without ventilation.

Where it fits for Irish workplaces and colleges

For a meeting room that hosts visitors, a single USB-C cable at the table is the simplest experience we can offer: plug in, the picture appears and the laptop charges. For a college or venue, the scaler, fibre port and video wall processing suit lecture theatres, overflow rooms and large signage. Our Teams room installation in Dublin and Teams room installation in Cork pages cover how we bring the camera, microphones and control together. You can browse the wider range in our Crestron AV over IP shop, and see everything we do with the brand on our Crestron page.

Ongoing support matters more now that Crestron intends to add features to the new chip through firmware. 1Install Care covers monitoring, updates and support after handover. Our Crestron installer in Dublin and Crestron installer in Cork pages explain how we work with Crestron in each city.

Questions we are often asked

Can I buy the DM NVX 370 now?

Crestron states that the new DM NVX hardware is available now. It is not in our online shop yet, so contact us for a quote based on your rooms.

Do I have to replace my current DM NVX units?

No. Crestron says new and existing DM NVX devices are cross compatible and backwards compatible, so the 370 joins your current system.

Why does a custom chip matter to us?

Crestron says it uses less power and will gain features through firmware. For you, that should mean longer useful life from the hardware you buy now.

Will a laptop charge from the USB-C port on PoE alone?

No. PoE+ powers the unit, but 100 W charging needs the optional PW-2460DU power pack, according to Crestron's product page.

Does it work with Crestron Home?

Yes. Crestron lists Crestron Home OS among the supported control platforms, as well as 3-Series and 4-Series processors.
