Biamp Gym Audio in Adelaide: What It Means for Dublin and Cork Leisure Venues

Biamp gym audio is now running at Change North Adelaide in South Australia, where integrator Leedall fitted Desono DP8 pendants, Desono C-IC6 ceiling speakers, Voltera controllers, Apprimo Wall Controllers and Parlé microphones, as Biamp announced on 22 September 2026. Gyms, leisure centres and hotel spas in Dublin and Cork can borrow the thinking: treat each zone on its own terms, give staff simple controls and design the instructor's voice in from the start.

  • Date: Biamp published the announcement on 22 September 2026, with a Beaverton and Adelaide dateline.
  • Venue: Change North Adelaide, which Biamp calls a premier fitness and wellness destination in Adelaide, South Australia.
  • Loudspeakers: Desono DP8 pendants cover the functional training area, and Desono C-IC6 in-ceiling models serve the cardio, Pilates, spa and wellness spaces.
  • Control and voice: Voltera controllers drive the system, Apprimo Wall Controllers handle zone control, and Parlé microphones reinforce instructors' voices.
  • Installer: Leedall, based in Adelaide, which Biamp says commissioned the full system offline before installation.

The Adelaide project in brief

According to the press release on biamp.com, Change North Adelaide wanted two very different results from one installation. Classes needed strong, clear sound. The spa and wellness spaces needed premium background music that stays out of the way. The venue also has a cardio zone, a Pilates studio and a recovery lounge, and Biamp says each area called for its own acoustic treatment.

Leedall's Associate Designer, Tim Biedman, explained the choice of platform this way: "The integrated Biamp ecosystem was the perfect fit for the diverse acoustic requirements at Change." He added in the release that the reliability of the Desono speakers and the way they worked with Voltera and Apprimo gave the client what it needed.

The press release does not state speaker quantities, cost, or how long the installation took, so those details are not covered here.

How each zone was handled

Functional training. Desono DP8 pendant loudspeakers hang over the training floor so that instructors and music reach every corner. Biamp's DP8 data sheet describes an 8-inch coaxial pendant with a 1.25-inch compression driver and 115 degree conical coverage, designed for open architecture spaces. It has a built-in autoformer for 70V or 100V lines, a power tap switch, and comes in black or white. Fitness clubs are listed among its applications.

Cardio and Pilates. Desono C-IC6 in-ceiling loudspeakers give even coverage without overpowering people who are concentrating. Biamp's release calls them marine-grade and links that to durability in a demanding fitness setting, although the C-IC6 data sheet gives indoor, climate controlled environments as its operating conditions, so confirm the rating for any wet area.

Spa and wellness. Further C-IC6 units play discreet background music. On the data sheet, Biamp describes the C-IC6 as a two-way 6.5-inch ceiling loudspeaker with 130 degree coverage, a depth under 151 mm and grilles that can be painted to suit the ceiling.

Control. Apprimo Wall Controllers let staff and instructors adjust their own zones. Biamp's Apprimo family page describes the line as touch interfaces, and lists a customisable user interface and PoE power for its touch panels.

Amplification. Voltera controllers power the speakers. Biamp's Voltera page says the range covers amplifiers and amplified loudspeaker controllers, and that its D Series and D M Series controllers are configurable in Tesira or VenueTune software, with support for AVB, Dante and AES67. The release does not name the Voltera models used.

What Biamp gym audio means for Dublin and Cork

Fitness venues here come in many shapes. A Dublin city centre hotel might have a small gym, a pool and a spa on one basement level. A Cork leisure centre may run a sports hall, studio classes and a swimming pool side by side. A boutique cycling or reformer Pilates studio in Ranelagh or Douglas has one room but very particular sound needs. What links them is the mix of loud and quiet spaces under one roof, which is exactly what the Adelaide venue had to solve.

Three ideas from the Change project carry over well:

Use the right speaker shape for the ceiling. Pendants suit open or exposed ceilings, while shallow in-ceiling models suit suspended ceilings in older buildings and hotel refits.

Keep staff controls simple. Wall controllers for each zone mean the spa team, the front desk and the class instructor can each set their own level without touching the rest of the system.

Treat the microphone as part of the system. The Change system includes Parlé microphones so instructors can be heard over the music. In a studio full of bikes or rowers, that matters.

A planning checklist for gyms, leisure centres and hotel spas

Use this list before you talk to any installer, whatever brand you end up with:

  • List every area that needs sound, including corridors, changing rooms and cafés, and note how loud each should be at its busiest.
  • Mark which ceilings are open, suspended or solid, and how deep the voids are.
  • Decide who adjusts each zone: reception, spa staff, instructors or a manager.
  • Note where instructors need a microphone and whether classes ever move between rooms.
  • Check for moisture: pools, steam rooms and spa areas need speakers specified for those conditions.
  • Ask whether the system can be configured and tested before work starts on site, as Biamp says Leedall did, to keep closures short.
  • Think about the rest of the building: meeting rooms, function rooms and training spaces may share the same audio platform and support contract.

Fitting it into a wider building

Many hotels and leisure operators in Dublin and Cork also run meeting rooms, function suites or staff training rooms. 1Install designs, supplies and installs meeting rooms, Teams Rooms and video conferencing systems. If you are planning a refit, see our audio conferencing page, our meeting room AV services and how a project runs on our process page.

Interestingly, Biamp's C-IC6 data sheet notes Zoom and Microsoft Teams certification, so the same ceiling speaker model used in the Adelaide spa also appears in conferencing designs. For venues with a Teams Room in Dublin or a Teams Room in Cork, that kind of overlap can simplify spares and training. We looked at another Biamp option for meeting spaces in our article on Biamp Devio UCX and BMA 360D bundles.

Questions we are often asked

Does Biamp make speakers for gyms and spas?

Yes. Biamp says Change North Adelaide uses Desono DP8 pendants for training and Desono C-IC6 ceiling speakers for cardio, Pilates and spa areas.

What is the Biamp Desono C-IC6?

It is a two-way 6.5-inch ceiling loudspeaker. Biamp's data sheet gives 130 degree coverage, a depth under 151 mm, paintable grilles and Zoom and Microsoft Teams certification.

Can gym staff change the volume in one room without affecting the others?

Zone control is part of the Adelaide design: Biamp says Apprimo Wall Controllers let staff and instructors manage the audio zone controls.

Can a Biamp system be set up before the installers arrive on site?

Yes. Biamp says Leedall commissioned the whole Change North Adelaide system offline, which cut time on site.

When did Biamp announce the Change North Adelaide project?

On 22 September 2026, in a press release on biamp.com.
