A large family home run from one Crestron system: lighting, shading, heating and cooling, security, music in every room and a 12 seat cinema.
What the owners asked for
The family wanted the technology to feel like part of the house, not something added on top of it. Entertainment, security and energy use all had to come under one system that anyone at home could pick up and use, and none of it could be allowed to spoil the interior.
How we approached it
The project was planned jointly with the architects and the interior designers, which is how the technology ended up serving the design. Crestron Home sits at the centre and brings the separate systems together on the touch screens and on the family's phones.
What went in
- Control: Crestron Home looks after lighting, blinds, heating, cooling, security and entertainment from the same screens.
- Cinema: a 12 seat room with fabric lined walls, Dolby Atmos sound and a 4K projector.
- Music: Crestron DM NAX carries high resolution audio to every room and to the outdoor entertaining areas.
- Video: Crestron NVX sends 4K pictures to any screen in the house.
- Security and entry: Texecom alarms, Paxton access control and 2N door entry, all on the touch screens and the mobile app.
- Lighting and shading: Crestron lighting with motorised blinds, set up as scenes for the mood and the time of day.
- Heating and cooling: more than 20 zones, each on its own schedule so energy is not wasted.
How it turned out
A single press sets the lights for the evening, music plays in any room, and the alarm and the doors can be checked from anywhere in the world. The house also serves as a showcase of what Crestron can do when it is designed in from the start.
