A smart home fitted ten years ago, brought up to date with Crestron Home while keeping the cabling and equipment that still had life in it.
What the owners asked for
After a decade the house still worked, but the touch panels and remotes had dated and the system could not do what newer ones can. The owners wanted modern control that the whole household would find easy, lower energy use and better security.
How we approached it
We began with an audit of what was installed, then replaced what had aged and kept what had not. The work ran in four stages:
- Audit and planning, one month.
- New hardware and tidying of the existing wiring, two months.
- AV and automation set up, two months.
- Testing, handover and showing the family how to use it, one month.
What went in
- New Crestron Home touch screens in place of the old panels and remotes.
- Automation of lighting, motorised blinds, heating and cooling, and security.
- Crestron NVX to send high definition video over the network, with Crestron amplifiers for music around the house.
- Smart locks, cameras with remote viewing, motion sensors and a link to the Texecom alarm, all in the Crestron Home app.
- Lighting that follows the body clock through the day, and air quality monitoring.
How it turned out
The family now runs the house from the touch screens, by voice or from the app. Everyday use is simpler than before, the house uses less energy and it is better protected, and the original cabling is still doing its job.
