Teams Rooms Android 10 and 11: What Dublin and Cork Offices Need to Check

Square view of a meeting room behind glass, showing acoustic ceiling panels and linear lights above a white table, dark chairs, a touch panel and a display on the wall with a camera over it. Rooms like this are where a Teams Rooms Android audit starts

Any Teams Rooms Android bar, touch console, panel or phone still on Android 10 or 11 is now on a countdown: Microsoft lists 3 September 2026 as the certification end date for both versions and stops supporting them on 3 September 2027. Offices in Dublin and Cork should check every room device against those dates, because the fix ranges from a firmware update to a new piece of hardware.

Where the story comes from

The trade title AV Interactive (avinteractive.com) ran the headline "Teams users urged to audit rooms for Android 10 and 11" on 1 September 2026. We cannot comment on that article beyond its headline, so everything below is taken from Microsoft's own documentation, chiefly the Microsoft Learn page Android versioning support for Teams devices and the certified device lists that sit alongside it.

That page sets out a lifecycle for each Android version used on Teams phones, Teams panels and Teams Rooms on Android. Android 10 and 11 share one pair of dates: certification to 3 September 2026 and Microsoft support to 3 September 2027. Microsoft notes that the first of those was originally 3 September 2025 and was extended by twelve months, while the second was left where it was. Android 12 and 13 are certified to 15 August 2028 and supported to 15 August 2030. Android 14 runs to 4 October 2029 and 4 October 2031, and Android 15 to 15 October 2030 and 15 October 2032.

Two dates, two different meanings

Think of certification as Microsoft's approval of a device on a particular Android version. According to Microsoft, the end date is fixed by whichever Android version the product had when it joined the certification programme. Microsoft says manufacturers extend the life of that approval by upgrading the product to a newer Android version and putting it through certification again.

Support is what follows. Microsoft's stated policy on its device lists is that, after a certification runs out, it will go on supporting the latest Teams device app on that hardware for a further two years, although it reserves the right to alter the policy and says it would announce any change. In the case of Android 10 and 11, the support date Microsoft publishes is 3 September 2027. Nothing we read from Microsoft says the screen goes dark the next morning. Equally, nothing says Teams will keep being updated on it.

A room audit checklist for Teams Rooms Android devices

Work through this once for each site.

  • Open the device inventory. Microsoft says Teams Rooms on Android, panels and phones enrolled in your organisation appear in the Teams admin centre under Teams devices, each with its manufacturer, model, status and when it was last seen. Microsoft also states that monitoring and updating these devices is moving to the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal, so look there as well.
  • Count everything that runs Android. The bar under the screen is one device. So is the touch console on the table, the scheduling panel outside the door and the conference phone.
  • Write down the firmware version. Microsoft describes an Update option on each device that lists the software and firmware updates waiting for it.
  • Look the model up on Microsoft's certified list. The Teams Rooms on Android certified devices page shows, for each model, the certified firmware, the Android version it is built on and the current certification end date. Panels and phones have their own lists.
  • Confirm on the device if in doubt. If the installed firmware is older than the certified one, the Android version in the room may be older too. The device's settings screen, the maker's management tool or your installer can settle it.
  • Check how updates are applied. Microsoft recommends automatic updates and says it tests and supports the latest Teams app release and the release before it.
  • Flag anything that reads "re-certification is pending". That wording on Microsoft's list suggests the maker has not yet had a newer release certified for that entry.

Reading the result: three kinds of device

Already on Android 12 or later. Most current products fall here. On the day we read Microsoft's lists, room devices from Yealink, Jabra, Poly, Neat, Logitech and Crestron were overwhelmingly shown on Android 12 or 13. Keep them updated and move on.

On Android 10 or 11, with newer firmware available. This is a maintenance job, not a purchase. Microsoft explains that manufacturers hand their Android and firmware releases to Microsoft for certification, after which they are offered through the admin centre or the Pro Management portal. Schedule the update and test a call afterwards.

On Android 10 or 11, with nothing newer certified. Four room entries carried the 3 September 2026 date and the pending note when we looked: the Logitech Rally Bar Huddle (VR0034) on Android 11, the Neat Bar Pro + Shure Complete Room Bundle on Android 10, and the Poly TC8 and TC10 in their HP Direct Connect virtual touch console form, for which no Android version is given. The standalone Neat Bar Pro, by contrast, appears on Android 13. On the panels list the Logitech Dock Flex (VR0035) was shown on Android 10. No certified phone was listed on either version. Microsoft revises these pages, so read them again before acting on any single name.

Why the maker matters as much as Microsoft

Microsoft sets the dates, but it does not decide the fate of an individual product. Its lifecycle page says: "Decision to not recertify, end of sale, or end of life of a specific device is an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) decision."

Microsoft also acknowledges both possible outcomes. Some products, it says, may get an operating system upgrade and be certified again before their date passes. Others might not, and will in time be discontinued by their maker. For a device in the third group above, ask the manufacturer or your supplier whether a newer Android release is coming for that model, and when.

Planning across Dublin and Cork sites

For an organisation with rooms in both cities, run the same checklist at each site and combine the results into one sheet: room, device, Android version, certification end date, action. That sheet is the basis of a budget. Devices awaiting a firmware update cost time only. Devices with no route off Android 10 or 11 need a replacement line with a target date before 3 September 2027.

Where a replacement is needed, it is worth asking whether the room itself still suits how it is used. A huddle room that is now used differently may deserve a fresh look at its meeting room AV and audio conferencing at the same visit. New hardware should be chosen with Microsoft's Android dates in mind, since a product on a recent Android version starts with more years ahead of it.

Questions we are often asked

Is 3 September 2026 a hard cut off?

It is the date Microsoft gives for the end of certification of Android 10 and 11, not the end of support. Microsoft lists support for those versions until 3 September 2027, so there is time to act, but not time to ignore it.

Our video bar is only a few years old. Can it really be affected?

Yes, because the dates follow the Android version and not the purchase date. A fairly recent product that shipped on Android 10 or 11 and has not been moved to a newer version by its maker carries the earlier dates.

Do scheduling panels and desk phones count?

They do. Microsoft's lifecycle page covers Teams panels and Teams phones as well as room systems, and each has its own certified list showing Android versions and end dates.

Who provides the Android upgrade, Microsoft or the manufacturer?

The manufacturer builds it. Microsoft's role, as it describes it, is to certify the release and distribute it through the Teams admin centre or the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal.
