A boardroom AV installation is judged on what you see on the wall, but it only works because of what you do not see. This south Dublin boardroom, photographed in February 2023, has two large displays on a deep blue acoustic wall, a long table with an oak veneer front and a rack of equipment that keeps it all running. We installed and set up the AV here, and the photos show both the room and the rack.
The room
The two displays sit side by side above a low credenza, and both were showing the Microsoft Teams logo when we took the photo. A camera stands in the middle of the credenza, round fittings are set into the tabletop, and black pendant lights hang beneath a slatted acoustic ceiling.
What is in the rack
The front of the rack carries a SurgeX SX1213-RTI surge eliminator and power conditioner at the top, then a Crestron AMP-2210T amplifier, a brush panel that lets cables pass through, a small unit with network and screw terminal connections, and a Dell mini PC on a shelf of its own. The AMP-2210T is a two channel commercial power amplifier, a model Crestron has since discontinued.
Why the back of the rack matters
From behind, the rack shows pink cables gathered into loops, red cables running to green screw terminals and black cable ties holding everything in place. Tidy cabling is not only for looks. It makes faults quicker to find and lets the next engineer see at a glance what goes where.
Planning a boardroom AV installation
Decide early where the rack will live, how it will be reached and how it will be kept cool, because those choices shape everything else. Think about the displays and the camera together, and about how the room will be controlled, so the table stays free of clutter. Our pages on conference rooms and meeting room AV cover the options, and audio conferencing explains how voices are picked up and carried across a long table.
